Both Cusco and La Paz are at high altitudes. To minimize the risk of altitude sickness, consider arriving a few days early to acclimatize, stay hydrated, eat light meals, avoid alcohol, and discuss with your doctor about taking altitude sickness medication.
The climate can vary significantly, so pack layers. Include warm clothing for cool temperatures in high-altitude areas, comfortable walking shoes for ruins and city tours, and lighter attire for warmer days. Rain gear is essential, particularly during the rainy seasons.
Machu Picchu involves walking on uneven terrain and steps, so a moderate level of fitness is required. Tiwanaku is more accessible, but still involves some walking. Always wear comfortable footwear and take it slow if you're not used to the altitude.
