Assistance on arrival in Cusco and transfer to your selected hotel. Free time to take a short rest to be acclimatized to the altitude. In the afternoon, Historical guided city tour of Cusco visiting the Main Square, the Cathedral and the Temple of the Sun. After, we'll leave the city to visit the Inca sites of Qenqo, Tambomachay, Puca Pucara, and the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman. Qenqo: An archaeological site featuring intriguing carved rock formations and underground channels, believed to have been used by the Incas for ceremonial and religious purposes. Tambomachay: Known as the "Inca Baths," Tambomachay boasts water fountains used for rituals and purification. Its architecture and hydraulic engineering are remarkable. Puca Pucara: An ancient military fortress guarding the access to Cusco, named for its red stones. Sacsayhuaman: An awe-inspiring fortress with enormous, precisely carved stones forming its walls. It offers panoramic views of Cusco. Return to the city of Cusco.
Excursion to the "Sacred Valley of the Incas", a succession of picturesque towns, agricultural terraces and archaeological sites. We´ll have the opportunity to bargain with vendors and stroll at the Pisac's typical Indian market, with a catholic mass service on Sunday (celebrated in Quechua, the native language). Lunch at a local restaurant in the Sacred Valley. In the afternoon pass through Calca and Urubamba towns to arrive to the Inca Fortress and Citadel of Ollantaytambo, which was built to guard the entry of this part of the valley and protect it from enemies of the lower jungles; consisting in a series of superimposed terraces of carved stones accessed by long staircases. We will have the opportunity to walk through the quaint streets of the nearby town, religious and agricultural centre during the Inca Empire, and get a clear idea of the military strategy against possible invasions. On our way back to Cusco we will visit the picturesque Andean village of Chinchero where the remains of what was the royal hacienda of Tupac Inca Yupanqui lies. Admire its well preserved Inca Wall at the Main Square, visit the beautiful colonial temple built on Inca foundations, with interesting frescoes on the portico. Back to Cusco in the afternoon.
Early in the morning, our guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and escort you by bus to Chilca, marking the start of your trek to Machu Picchu. After about three hours of walking, you'll pause for a well-deserved lunch. Post-lunch, your journey continues toward Wayllabamba, enriched by a guided exploration of the Llactapata archaeological site. The day concludes with dinner and an overnight stay in tents at the Wayllabamba campsite.
After breakfast, brace yourself for the most challenging part of the trail as you ascend towards Warmiwañusca, also known as Dead Woman’s Pass, perched at approximately 4,200 meters above sea level. The three-hour trek to this highest point of the Inca Trail rewards you with a breathtaking panoramic view and a sense of triumph. Post the descent, lunch awaits, followed by a trek down to your next campsite at Pacaymayo, where you will dine and rest for the night.
Start your day descending towards the Runkurakay pass at 3,850 meters, where you'll tour the archaeological complexes of Runkurakay and Sayacmarca. Continue trekking to Puya Patamarka, another significant archaeological site, where lunch will be served. The day’s trek concludes with an arrival at Wiñay Huayna, featuring a guided tour of its impressive archaeological complex set against a stunning backdrop. Dinner and overnight stay at the Wiñay Huayna campsite.
Rise early and start your day with a trek through the forest to Inti Punku, the Gate of the Sun, arriving just in time for a spectacular sunrise over Machu Picchu. Following the sunrise, enjoy a comprehensive three-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu, exploring its main sites and monuments. After the tour, enjoy some free time to explore on your own before descending by bus to Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon, transfer by train to Cusco. Upon arrival in Cusco transfer to your hotel. Overnight.
